They say it only comes around once in a blue moon…
In the weeks leading up to Halloween, Columbia’s clubs were busy hosting pumpkin painting events and festive Día de los Muertos celebrations. The campus was practically overflowing with fall spirit.
But when Halloweekend finally arrived, what exactly happened on campus?
Well, based on some expert observations, here is a recap of how Halloween probably went down for the average Barnumbian.
- You had the perfect, niche costume planned by late September
- You held off on placing your Amazon order for three weeks because your friends couldn’t decide between a matching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Alvin & The Chipmunks costume
- By the time they finally picked, shipping was estimated for November
- You spent Friday night rummaging through your dorm room, borrowing a pair of cat ears from your roommate and piecing together a black tank top and mini skirt
- You found an Instagram graphic for a party at a random venue downtown, featuring a wildly AI-generated poster with three extra fingers on the DJ’s hand
- It costs $20. You convince yourself this is the event of the weekend
- You wait in line for 45 minutes, walk inside, and discover that the entire venue will be shut down by law enforcement within the hour
- Defeated, you walk back through College Walk at 1:30 a.m. in 40-degree weather, wearing your costume as a rite of passage
- You make the walk of shame to JJ’s Place. Yet there is no shame in a vanilla milkshake and some curly fries
- Happy Fall Break! JJ’s is actually closed. :)
- It is 1:55 a.m. You wonder if you can make it to Shake Shack before it closes at 2
- You give up and snack on the Take 4 snacks in your room.
- You don’t take your costume or makeup off… either way, you’ll be repeating the whole experience tomorrow.
