There are many woes associated with living in the quad. Thankfully, a complimentary alarm clock is provided.
To many, living in the Barnard quad means moldy shower curtains, celery to relieve heat stroke, and dirty laundry machines. There is one undeniably unique aspect about living in the quad, however. All residents whose rooms face into the quad are provided with a free alarm clock at around 10 AM almost every morning, courtesy of Barnard Admissions. Instead of a blaring, alarming sound resonating from the typical digital alarm clock or cell phone, residents are lulled into consciousness by the sweet, sweet sound of how Barnard was founded in 1889 and named after Columbia’s tenth president, Frederick Barnard and how Barnard tour guides love spending their points on Diana sushi.
I consider myself to be so lucky that my room faces into the quad. I mourn the loss of my Barnard-provided alarm clock next semester. But I know that the class of 2023 will soon enjoy the alarm clock that they did not know would soon be their alarm clock as they chuckled politely during their admissions tours. One day, you too will be like me, waking up at 10 AM right on time for your 10:10 class, courtesy of Barnard Admissions.
