Happening in the World: Hundreds of Chileans have been shot and beaten in a wave of protests against income inequality. Doctors say they don’t have enough supplies to treat wounded and accuse authorities of underreporting injuries. Protests began over a 4 cent Subway fare hike, but have evolved to protests over income inequality in the country. (The Guardian)

Happening in the US: California’s governor has declared a state of emergency as Kincade Fire grows to 50,000 acres. So far 180,000 people have been evacuated and around one million people have lost power in the region. (CNN)

Happening in New York: Early voting for New York local elections started Saturday and will continue until Sunday, November 3. Early voting is open to every registered voter. (CBS)

Happening on Campus: Dr. Kelsey Martin, Dean, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Gerald S. Levey Chair, will be delivering the Inaugural Eric R. Kandel Lecture. The title of her presentation is “Regulating Gene Expression to Store Long-Term Memories”. Find out more here.
