The final days of room selection are upon us…

As room selection draws to a close, few rooms are still available at Columbia. At Barnard, there is still hope for singles, doubles, and triples, as the selection begins its second day.

Columbia Edition:

What’s Gone?

  • Almost everything

What’s Scarce?

  • 0.5 double in EC
  • 2 doubles in Carlton Arms
  • 2.5 doubles in Wien
  • 2.5 doubles in Harmony
  • 11 doubles in Broadway

What’s Still Left?

  • 91 doubles in McBain
  • 28.5 doubles in Schapiro

Looking Ahead

With two days left, there is still a bit of variety in room choices. Not much but, there certainly is some! If you have a good lottery number, there is still a chance to snag the last few doubles in Carlton Arms, Wien, or Harmony. If you don’t, it’s time to give Bwog’s housing reviews of McBain and Schapiro a read.

Barnard Edition:

In the second day of the 123 room selection, juniors have wiped out all Elliot, 121, 616, CG, and Plimpton singles. There are still many rooms available, however, they are mostly doubles.

What’s Gone?

  • Elliot singles
  • 121 singles
  • 616 singles
  • CG singles
  • Plimpton singles

What’s Scarce?

  • 1 double in 121
  • 1 double in Hewitt
  • 5 double in Sulz Tower
  • 5 doubles in Elliot
  • 5 triples in 110
  • 5 doubles in CG
  • 6 doubles in 620
  • 7 doubles in 616

What’s Still Left?

  • 27 singles in Hewitt
  • 14 doubles in 110
  • 17 doubles in 600
  • 16 doubles in Plimpton

How do you interpret the cutoffs? It’s Group Value/Lottery Number. So for example, 200/73 means that you are a group of all rising juniors with a lottery number of 73 overall.

What’s the difference between this year and last year?

It’s a bit hard to interpret as last year 110 studios and 121 singles were not in the mix. In 2020, we see way fewer juniors doubling up, even if it means a better suite or studio double over a single. Triples also have seen a surge in popularity whilst fewer juniors opted for the guarantee list.

What’s next?

Tomorrow, few junior groups and many sophomore groups will be choosing their rooms. With few singles left, the lucky few with high enough lottery numbers will be calling Hewitt their new home. There are many doubles in many different dorms left, meaning we will see quite the variation in choices. And don’t forget about the lovely 110 triples!

May the odds be ever in your favor!
