Happening in the World: Protestors in Haiti are demanding the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse, who has frequently been accused of corruption throughout his term. Happening in the US: Communities all across southern and central US were hit by an enormous winter storm that has put 150 million people under storm warnings and has caused the deaths of at least eleven people. This storm is thought to have been caused by Arctic warming weakening the jet stream that typically contains the polar vortex in the north. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: Governor Cuomo announced Monday that starting February 22nd, overnight subway service would be suspended from 2-4 am for cleaning, rather than from 1-5 am. Overnight closure for cleaning has been in place since May 2020, but since then it has been found that surface transmission of COVID-19 is much rarer than originally suspected. (Gothamist)

Happening in the Columbia Community: The School of the Arts’ “Live From Columbia” series continues with the JACK quartet, an award-winning group of musicians and music teachers who have worked with many famous composers. Hear them play pieces by Helmut Lachenmann at 7 pm tonight!
