The weekend is almost here: kick things off by getting a tattoo that your employer can’t fire you for!

Happening in the World: Sweden has found a new leak in a major underseas Russian pipeline. The damage, found in Nord Stream pipelines 1 and 2, is thought to be a deliberate attempt by Russia to cut off the gas supply to the EU. Nato, as well as Swedish and German officials, have expressed their concerns not only for the potential attack, but also for the devastating effects that a leak such as this will have on the environment. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Hurricane Ian continues to ravage the southern coast, with winds reaching up to 65 miles an hour in central Florida. Over two million in the state have been left without power. Although the storm is weakening, it is still expected to full cross state lines by the end of the week. (WSJ)

Happening in NYC: A new bill coming before the New York City Council would prevent discrimination against individuals with tattoos. Having a tattoo would be added to the list of categories for which housing and job discrimination are already prohibited. Supporters of the bill add that tattoos, as a form of self-expression, often incur bias that may prevent individuals from being hired or finding housing. (The Gothamist)

Happening in Our Community: A panel will be held tomorrow from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in the Satow Room in Lerner Hall by Voting Week 2022. Three student activists will share their experiences with Columbia’s administration and activism on-campus. Columbia Voting Week encourages students to attend and learn about opportunities for civic engagement in our community. Voter registration information can also be found on their event page.
