Happening off-Campus: Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that Qatar will be permitted to establish an air force presence on Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. This will include fighter jets and pilots. Trump recently issued an executive order for the US to guarantee Qatar’s security, and a US official states that this agreement with Qatar is routine and has been in place for decades, similar to those with Germany and Singapore. Happening near Campus: State lawmakers are trying to pass legislation that would expand gifted and talented programs around the city. Assemblyman William Colton planned to rally with fellow lawmakers on Friday afternoon to promote a bill he introduced in January that will require more gifted classes. Through Colton’s bill, children would join the program based on merit, not a test. However, others disagree, such as Mayor Bill de Blasio, who, at the end of his administration, said he wanted to eliminate gifted classes. (Gothamist)
