- China is often described as both an emerging economy and a tech superpower. Hosted by the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and Jerome A. Chazen Institute for Global Business, this event attempts to reconcile these two views. From 5 to 6 pm, Scott Kennedy, Senior Adviser and Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics, Center for Strategic & International Studies will give a lecture, followed by a reception in the Alumni Lounge from 6 to 7 pm.

American Religion is … Surveillance

- As part of a series called “The Shifting Paradigms of American Religion,” this event focuses on the ways in which American religious communities are using surveillance using new technologies or changing media. Speakers include Michael Graziano (University of Northern Iowa), Rucha Kaur (Sikh Coalition), and Kathryn Montalbano (University of Kentucky).

Academic Freedom Under Autocracy
- Tuesday, October 28, 5:30 to 6:30 pm, The Forum Foyer.
- SIPA, Columbia World Projects, the Committee on Global Thought, and the Initiative for Policy Dialogue are launching a new series in response to intensifying attacks on academic freedom at universities across the world. As the first lecture in this series, panelists will discuss how academic institutions survive under authoritarian governments, using Hungary and India as case studies.
