The beauty of bwartistic expression!

Happening off-campus: Zubeen Garg the Indian singer-composer died last month, leaving behind approximately 38,000 songs with complicated ownership rights scattered among producers, distributors, and music labels. His friends and associates are now working to register his songs with India’s performing rights organization and trace ownership chains to ensure his family receives royalties and his music remains accessible. The case highlights broader issues in India’s music industry, where ownership is often murky due to decades of informal copyright transfers, though the rise of streaming platforms has made proper documentation more important than ever.  (BBC)

Happening near campus: The NYC metro area offers several artist house museums that offer glimpses into the homes of influential 20th-century artists. Featured sites include the Renee & Chaim Gross Foundation in Greenwich Village, the Alice Austen House on Staten Island (an LGBTQ+ historic site), Donald Judd’s iconic cast-iron building at 101 Spring Street in SoHo, Edward Hopper’s childhood home in Nyack, and landscape designer sites like the James Rose Center in New Jersey and Manitoga in Garrison. Many of these preserved homes blend living quarters with studios and showcase both the artists’ work and their personal collections, though popular tours like the Louise Bourgeois House often require booking months in advance. Happening on-campus: This Monday, October 27, the Piano/percussion quartet Yarn/Wire is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a three-concert festival at Miller Theatre. The first concert will be tonight at 6 pm.  The series kicks off Miller’s Pop-Up concerts and highlights the quartet’s focus on composer-performer collaborations. Doors open at 5:30, and admission is free with first-come, first-serve seating. More information can be found here.

Rewatching: I am on season 4 of Grey’s Anatomy, and even though I already know what’s going to happen I am so invested it’s insane. Lexie has been introduced and Merder is broken up (did I mention I hate Rose?). Season 4 is around the point where I start hating Izzie and George, and the MAGIC loses some of its magic. On the plus side, I love Cristina, Alex, and Mer more with every episode. Mark and Callie are still here which almost makes up for Burke and Addison leaving (even if Hahn is annoying). God, if only Cristina and him had worked out– I am unfortunately a Burke defender (the character, not the actor). Looking forward to Slexie!!
