Staff writer Emorie Hayes invites you to embrace the present weather, but also find its qualms!
The rush of the holiday season is gone.
Campus rushes back into academic rigor with full throttle, a mighty head cold has already leaked into your system, you are prancing to class with a slightly stuffed nose and a rough laugh if you’re lucky.
The snow is no longer soft and meant to coddle; you’re simply left a sufferer of the winter.
As you walk past the sundial, you remember the rush of the afternoon air from October, not too cold yet not too hot. As you gaze at College Walk, you feel the last remnants of summer air gracing your skin, swelling your heart as you lackadaisically stroll to class, skin buzzing with excitement for the rest of the fall semester.
You say every day, if not every other day, “I can’t wait for so-and-so’s holiday.” Salaciously greedy as the present isn’t enough, the future is to be in the palm of your hand at this very moment!
Never content with the present sun dazzling on Harlem in the hot air of August, but looking forward to the cold winds of Halloween or the thrilling lights of College Walk in early December.
There is no salvation of the present in your story. So let’s embrace the chill of your heart in this bleached February, all the while looking forward to the hope that the springtime heat will return to us once more.
