Where are you going? Hopefully, somewhere warm.
What are three things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2030?
- Study abroad if you have the opportunity. In most cases, financial aid “travels with you,” so you can still get funding to study in a new place. It is probably the cheapest way to spend 5 (or more) months in a new country. You also get to learn new perspectives and meet so many new people that you probably would not have met otherwise.
- Do not be afraid to go to office hours. If you have a question about a certain topic that you do not understand, this can be a great opportunity to get clarification and it also shows taking initiative in your own learning.
- Take advantage of opportunities, but know that no one internship or research experience will define the rest of your career. If you do not get an internship that you wanted, it is not the end of the world. As long as you are doing your best, then you will end up where you are supposed to be.
“Back in my day…” I feel like making this dining hall themed: There was no ice cream machine in Hewitt, but they used to have smoothies for breakfast. Chef Mike’s was closed on Saturdays and Grace Dodge was all-you-care-to-eat. The Barnard Bubble Tea & Sushi spot also did not exist. Faculty House was not open for dinner and JJ’s was not open all night.
What was your favorite class at Columbia? One of my favorite classes was Higher Education & Inequality with Professor Teresa Sharpe. I also really liked: Human Rights in Theory & Practice with Professor Widney Brown, How We Learn: An Educational Neuroscience Perspective with Professor Anamaria Alexandrescu and Race, Ethnicity and Society with Professor Angela Simms.
Whom would you like to thank? I would like to thank all of my friends and family for their support throughout my time in college.
One thing to do before graduating? Study abroad, yes I am saying it again.
Any regrets? Nope! My goal was to graduate college and I did that, so I am happy!
