A forgotten spooky staple that deserves a second chance.
Does anyone else remember the fall tradition of ding-dong ditching your neighbors and leaving behind a basket of goodies? Before Halloween became focused on finding the most elaborate costume or buying tickets to the best party, there was another classic that brought mischief into our lives: Booing
For those unfamiliar, the concept is simple. Sneak up to a neighbor’s doorstep, leave a bag of Halloween treats and a sign, ring the doorbell, and run as fast as you can before anyone catches you. Once the lucky recipient discovers the sign announcing they’ve been booed, they will carry out their own booing on another house. The goal is to start a chain reaction, hopefully before long the whole neighborhood has experienced an anonymous spooky surprise.
The beauty of booing one another is that it requires little effort, yet has the power to foster community. Whether it’s candy, homemade treats, or a collection of dollar-store trinkets, the gesture is what counts. It’s time to move beyond the awkward waves in the hallway and truly get to know your neighbors. A surprise bag of candy is sure to make their day, especially during this frightful midterm season.
So, gather your supplies, recruit your friends, and prepare for the booing of a century.
