On Monday, March 24, the Columbia University chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) held an “Emergency Vigil” outside the University’s main gates. Organizers spoke, condemning Columbia’s reported compliance with demands requested by the Trump administration on March 13. 

The Columbia University chapter of the American Association of University Professors released a statement last Tuesday, March 18 responding to the recent letter sent by the Trump administration to University officials demanding academic and disciplinary changes. The statement describes recent funding cuts as an “assault” on higher education.

On Monday, September 23, an independent group of Barnard faculty members organized a teach-in outside Barnard Hall, claiming instances of violations of freedom of expression and shared governance. 

On May 8, the Columbia chapter of the American Association of University Professors plans to put forward a vote of no confidence resolution against President Shafik.
