Happening in the World: Israel Defense Forces announced it will begin destroying tunnels allegedly dug by Hezbollah under Israel’s northern border. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims the Lebanese militant group dug the tunnels “to attack and murder innocent Israeli men, women and children” (Washington Post). He also stated the digging of the tunnels was funded by Iran.
Happening in the US: The US Army announced it will build its new unit, the Army Futures Command, in Austin, Texas, a city known for its liberalism and creativity. The unit is designed to prepare soldiers for “the next generation of warfare” in an increasingly technological world (US News). People in the city are worried about preserving Austin’s innovative and progressive environment in the wake of the new addition.
Happening in NYC: PS 25, a school for children with special needs on Staten Island, received criticism recently for severe sanitary issues that left students and staff ill. Classrooms are reportedly filled with mold, insects, and rodents. The Department of Education conducted an investigation and reported there was no mold present, but Congressman Max Rose visited the school and stated he was “absolutely stick to [his] stomach” (NBC New York).
