You’ve probably seen signs/gotten the emails heralding the Fall Blood Drive, so you know it’s gonna be a doozy! Running from October 9-November 28, there will be “thirteen blood drives at six locations” as well as a panel of medical experts.
Said one tipster/commenter:
“This is the most intense blood drive I’ve ever seen.”
Also, some valuable information from another tipster Izumi Devalier:
“Never ever give your phone number to the New York Blood Center. They have
the most ineffectual recruiting campaign that involves calling your number
every day at the weirdest hours (Saturday at 9am, Friday at 10pm). They have
a telemarketing headquarter somewhere in Michigan. If you sign up, 734-258-1989 will call you FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE…
I told them to leave me alone. I do not need to be reminded to donate blood, and I certainly do not need to be bullied into doing it the day after I donate (your own rules state that you have to wait 6 weeks in between donating!). They are not as transparent as the Red Cross, and I have this sneaking suspicion that they are actually pretty sketchy.
Now I have their number set on Beethoven’s 5th ringtone.“
A word to the wise.

@mlp Unfortunately, nonprofits don’t have to respect the “do not call” list either. But when I told the blood people that the number they were calling was a cell phone and that I was getting charged every time they called, the actually did stop. I guess it never hurts to ask.
