Consulting-bound engineers can breathe easy! ESC clarified SEAS students weren’t able to register for certain Economics classes because of a “programming error in the registrar’s office.” The Economics Department and registrar have been notified of the problem and hope it will be resolved soon. Susan Elmes, Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Economics Department, notes that Corporate Finance and two other classes (TBA) will only be open to SEAS Students during the August registration period. SEAS students are allowed to register for all other classes except Lit Hum and CC.

@Anonymous No, this definitely is not fair. SEAS kids have objectively more to fit in their schedules than CC kids because we have a million more requirements to fulfill, including a year of Lit Hum or CC. I most likely will wind up having to change my schedule because I won’t get the CC section I want, and when your course load/major load requires you to take six classes a semester (which is more than any CC kid can say) that exacerbates things quite a bit.
@Anonymous THIS IS SUCK FUCKING BULLSHIT….WHY CANT I REGISTER FOR CC, IT’S HONESTLY UNFAIR, IT’S JUST AS MUCH OF A REQUIREMENT FOR ENGINEERS AS FOR CCers
@Anonymous QQ some more.
btw, CC is not as important to SEAS kids as CC kids, simply because for us it is required. So obviously they’re gonna let CC kids fill in the slots first.
@Anonymous You can’t claim that CC isn’t as important to SEAS students as it is to CC students — the fact that it is a core curriculum course at the university means it should always be offered with equal availability to Columbia University undergrads, especially since SEAS kids pay the same as CC kids (our tuition is higher, if anything). More SEAS kids have a course schedule that can’t really be fudged around with as much — if we are turned away from Lit Hum and CC there’s a chance we’ll never be able to take it if we don’t have space or time.
Just because a course is required for some people doesn’t mean its any less appreciated by others who choose it
@Anonymous Also, SEAS students are allowed to sign up for Lit Hum and CC….right?
@FALSE Dear IEOR Students:
SEAS students will be able to register for the following section of ECON
W4280 during the regular registration period in September 2011. This course
will not be open for early registration this week.
Please note that registration for this course will be open until all seats
are filled. Thank you for your attention.
@sigh “Corporate Finance and two other classes (TBA) will only be open to SEAS Students during the August registration period”
I don’t suppose that’s one of the TBA classes? Next time read the post!
@Anonymous WHY is Econ being like this? The IEOR Majors have requirements in the Econ Department…
@uhh So who made up the dumb rumor?
@Not Fixed It’s still not fixed. Corp Fin and Fin Econ are still listed as restricted.
@read clarified, not fixed.

will be resolved soon, not already resolved. :D
