Registration for Spring 2014 is almost upon us. While for most people that means putting the finishing touches on their perfectly balanced schedule (right???) for Bwog that means frantically looking for an extra-esoteric class to add to our already bizarre course load. If everything next semester just seems too normal for you, there are some…eclectic…options on offer to spice up your curriculum. Below, we present the cream of Columbia’s crop, classes that cannot be relevant to any area of study ever. We encourage commenters to chime in with any weird-ass classes we missed. @'13 I find it a little embarrassing that bwog categorically lists these classes as irrelevant because of their titles. It reveals 1) stupidity, because only a stupid person would cast aside the project of a Columbia professor without first waging an attempt at its comprehension and 2) Lazy misreading. It is possible to misread many of these titles because they use terminology specific to theoretical and technical innovations developed within the fields of application. Note, for example, that all of these classes are offered at the upper level, some of them at the graduate level. Now, before you object: “But that’s just nonsensical humanities jargon,” consider that you would never say the same thing to an advanced level computer scientist who begins to use acronyms or codes that fly over your head. Perhaps what bwog is doing is erecting a defense system in order to avoid admission that its just not intellectually capable or emotionally mature enough to swallow the bitter pill that, indeed, studying the humanities and social sciences got a bit harder after high school, that bwog just couldn’t hack it in a Shakespeare seminar. Bwog thus condescends to Humanistic study as the sole means of comforting its unpalatable deficiencies with respect to knowledge. Advice: Grow up. Sit through one of these classes. Listen. Really. And see if you could actually do what they require before pompously, pretentiously massaging your ego with public displays of ignorance.
@Anonymous all these random classes are offered because of professors’ academic interests? thats kind of cool though a little limiting
@WAIT FUCK ME THEYRE FINALLY OFFERING CULTURAL HISTORY OF JAPANESE MONSTERS AGAIN?
O HAPPY DAY
@tbh organization failure sounds kinda useful
@TECHNOBODIES??? sign me up for a humanities class on robots right goddamn now
@Anthro major This post saves me a trip to the class bulletin. Thanks Bwog!
@cc15 I doubt that any electrical engineering course would qualify as underwater basket weaving
@Anonymous Yeah that kind of made me mad. Being able to filter out random noise from signals is of the utmost importance in pretty much every branch of science.
@Uh Bwog You forgot the Global Core: Silence. My participation points were so high in that class that I failed.
