Bwog was established in 2006 as a place to give students a revolutionary platform for learning about and communicating with their community at Columbia. In the nine years since, our readership and staff have steadily grown—but to this day, that dedication to our founding purpose has remained unchanged. There have been some bumps in the road over the years, but we have taken them in stride, reached out and engaged further with our readership, and taken the necessary steps to ensure that we always remain true to our roots.
But today, on behalf of the entire Bwog staff, I am proud to announce that Bwog is becoming a bit better. We’ve redesigned our entire site.
We’ve spent the past year and a half working with talented designers, engineers, and college students to construct an entirely new (well, really, just updated) experience. We’re extremely proud of it.
That being said, we’ve prioritized getting the redesign out to you all sooner rather than later over working out all of the kinks. We’re aware of most of them, but we would love to hear any and all feedback at redesign@bwog.com.
This redesign would not have been possible without the endless dedication of a small group of Columbia students. Our tech team (Kevin Chen, Andy Hadjigeorgiou, and Parker Case) stayed up many long nights drinking Red Bull and eating Doritos. Our editorial boards (fearlessly led by Sarah Faith Thompson, Maud Rozee, and Julia Goodman) had countless meetings. Our graphic designer, Alejandra Oliva, provided the creative inspiration.
So have at it! Read our posts, comment away, and keep doing what makes this place so very special. Most importantly, hold fast to the spirit of youth.
Fondly,
Jake Hershman

@Anonymous It’s not awful.
However the design needs some serious work for phones and normal laptop screens. Soooo much wasted space and scrolling hides the content.
@ew this is super shitty. also now super bad on mobile devices b/c you have to scroll through SOO much to get to any articles
@Anonymous Sooooooo true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Anonymous I like it but it seems really cramped and narrow towards the middle. Kind of annoying.
@Anonymous Ugh, it’s so… white. Like it hurts my eyes, and almost makes it look like the page isn’t done loading yet or something when it actually is. Also it’s practically impossible to see how many comments there are in a post without clicking on it because the number in the little comment thought bubble thing is pretty much the same color as the background it’s on.
@so much white space!! on a 13″ screen the content (middle column) is hilariously small. responsivity is great, but not when the content is the first thing sacrificed over the featured comments/ads.
@messages that start in the name field don’t make sense anymore because it now inserts “says” after the name. It should go the way of the “is” that used to precede facebook statuses back in the day (does anyone here actually remember early facebook?)
@an old i do i do!!
@'15 I still miss Old Bwog.
@Anonymous On the main page, the top bar ( dark blue bar that says Bwog, as well as the bar underneath it with the most recent articles) literally takes up half my screen. Maybe make those top bars take up a little less space? Also, it seems silly to have a bar up top for the most recent articles, which I can just scroll down a little bit to find. It should be the most commented articles like it was until yesterday (although, to be honest, that seemed somewhat arbitrary–there would oftentimes be articles with only one or two comments up in that most commented bar…)
@Anonymous honestly the more i look at it the less i hate it. I think the side bars should be smaller. and so should the text that says 9 comments. but for the most part… i like it!
@bugsss It looks like you can upvote/downvote the same comment multiple times?
@YES Turns out you can.
@first world anarchist I really wish I had refreshed the page before upvoting this comment 1000 times
@why does this look like Barnard’s redesigned page? In general what’s the purpose of changing appearance if the contents are mostly the same?
@anon After 4 years this is so strange, but 1 little detail is when you move your mouse over the up/downvote it should turn into something else like it used to
@The Dark Hand spec sucks
I am a robot and i can beat the capcha suggit speck
@wow It looks like a dog farted and vomit came out instead, and that vomit slowly dribbled into a rusty storm drain, accumulating grime and rat hair and sewage as it plummeted downwards into one of the pipes of the internet, slowly congealing and becoming the website known as bwog
@The cloaked mask HERSHMAAAAAANN!!!!!
@Anonymous i like it
@Anonymous This is different
@hg proud to be the first to say–ewww
