Lately, it seems that pot is all anyone in the news can talk about.
Ohio Governor and GOP presidential candidate John Kasich appeared on The Late Show on Friday, only to be grilled by Stephen Colbert about his stance on legalizing marijuana (hint: Kasich is against decriminalization). (The Huffington Post)
Chuck Rosenberg, Chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration, released a statement earlier this week calling the medicinal use of marijuana “a joke.” While he does recognize some of the benefits of the substance, he concludes that “it has never been shown to be safe or effective as a medicine.” Interesting thoughts. The DEA also recently took a survey of law enforcement agencies across the country, with the goal of finding out what their most prominent issue is right now. Marijuana? Ranked at the bottom of all drug threats. (The Washington Post)
Can’t forget Colorado… Citizens of Pueblo County voted to increase taxes on marijuana growers in order to fund college scholarships. Two years from now, they say, high school graduates will be able to fund their college educations with the revenue brought in from the tax. (CNN)
