Barnard SGA doesn’t have a ton of stuff going on, we guess, just a lot of ongoing projects that they need to internally remind themselves about. Sometimes it seems like they just put on meetings for substitute Barnard Baroness Maryam Badran and not for themselves.
SGA’s meeting last night was brief, only adding up to about 15 minutes since there weren’t any pressing issues or concerns from the student body. However, the meeting was informative, and was essentially dedicated to reminding the student body about the following current upcoming events:
- The First Year Class Council is hosting the First Year Snowball. This will be open to all four undergraduate schools. It’ll be at Low Library on February 27th; tickets are 20 dollars per person. Dress code is formal, and the event will feature a professional DJ and a chocolate fountain.
- The Junior Class is hosting a winter carnival this Wednesday, February 17, from 7-10 PM in Roone. This will be open to all classes. The event will have a photo-booth with unlimited prints.
- Emma Seppala, author of The Happiness Track, will be speaking in Lerner Hall’s Broadway room on Wednesday, February 17th from 7-8 PM. There’ll be free food and drinks.
- The Student-Trustee Dinner will be on Wednesday, March 30th from 6-8 PM in the Diana Event Oval. Applications for this are now open, and the deadline is March 1st at 11:59 PM.
- Nominations for Barnard leaders, whether students, administrators, or staff, are due by Wednesday, March 2nd, at 11:59 PM. The form for this is available in SGA’s update email that was sent to the student body. The SGA Leadership Awards will be on April 28th, 2016.
- The Student Academic Advisory Committee is hosting a “Round-Table” discussion between students and faculty to address questions on Thursday, February 25 at 6:30pm in the Ella Weed Room (223 Milbank).
- The sophomore class committee is still selling hats for 10 dollars a piece, and will announce new dates for purchasing more hats soon.
- Applications to join the Inclusion and Equity committee are now available online.
- SGA urges and encourages anybody who feels they would like to try to submit changes to the SGA constitution to do so; the link for any suggested changes is included in the email SGA sent out as well.
In addition, SGA offered a warning of upcoming noise in relation to the Barnard construction; they shared that demolition is the next phase for the new building, and the process will start in the next 2 weeks, weather permitting.
