The Bwog Slack Server has faced God and walked backwards into Hell.
When I joined Bwog at the beginning of my freshman year (fall 2015), the staff had just started using Slack. This group messaging platform, intended for office communication, has become ubiquitous at publications around the country. At Bwog, we use it to discuss everything from sensitive tips to passing the snacks during meetings to who’s going to 1020 on a given Friday night. Over the four years that I have spent on this Slack server, we’ve created over 50 channels, almost 300 custom emoji, and so many Slackbot responses we have to regularly cull them to keep from going insane.
We’ve also talked about… a lot of weird shit. And because we use Slack so much (and can’t afford a premium package), our server deletes all messages every few weeks, so those weird conversations are only preserved out of context through the occasional screenshot… making them seem even more bizarre.
To celebrate nearly four years of Bwog Slack (or Bwack, or Bwogsteros) and the fact that I will be logging off for good after graduation next week, I’ve compiled a few great out-of-context moments into this post. Enjoy the chaos.
