The final day of room selection is upon us…

As room selection draws to a close, few rooms are still available at Columbia. At Barnard, there is still hope for doubles and triples, as the selection begins its final day.

Columbia Edition:

What’s Gone?

  • Almost everything

What’s Scarce?

  • 0.5 double in EC
  • 0.5 double in Carlton Arms
  • 0.5 doubles in Wien
  • 2 doubles in Harmony
  • 4 doubles in Broadway

What’s Still Left?

  • 18 doubles in McBain
  • 11.5 doubles in Schapiro

Looking Ahead

With one day left, there your best bet is McBain and Schapiro. If you have a good lottery number, there is still a chance to blindly pick a roommate in EC, Carlton Arms, and Wien, or fill a double in Harmony or Broadway. If you are still in between, check out Bwog’s housing reviews of McBain and Schapiro.

Barnard Edition:

On the third day of the 123 room selection, juniors have wiped out all singles. There are still many rooms available, however, they are mostly doubles and a few triples.

What’s Gone?

  • Hewitt singles
  • Sulzberger Tower singles
  • 110 singles and studio singles
  • 600 singles
  • 620 singles

What’s Scarce?

  • 1 double in 620
  • 2 doubles in 616
  • 3 doubles in CG
  • 4 doubles in 600
  • 4 doubles in Elliot
  • 4 triples in 110

What’s Still Left?

  • 6 doubles in 110
  • 13 doubles in Plimpton

How do you interpret the cutoffs?

It’s Group Value/Lottery Number. So for example, 200/73 means that you are a group of all rising juniors with a lottery number of 73 overall.

What’s the difference between this year and last year?

It’s a bit hard to interpret as last year 110 studios and 121 dorms were not in the mix. In 2020, fewer juniors are doubling up leaving more doubles than triples to sophomores. Triples also have seen a surge in popularity while students are trying to avoid being put on the guaranteed housing list. Hewitt ran out around the same time as last year. Although rising-sophomores have started putting themselves on guaranteed, a good portion was able to pick. 600 doubles seem to be the most popular among rising-sophomores, while only 15 rising-sophomores were able to pick into Hewitt. Today, Hewitt and Sulzberger Tower, with their location inside the gates of Barnard, went first, while doubles in Plimpton remain largely unpicked.

What’s next?

Tomorrow, sophomore groups will be choosing their rooms. With few triples left, many will scoop the Plimpton doubles. There are still many more doubles available than triples. There will be some variation in choice as the doubles are spread across a few dorms.

Happy last day!
