Bwoglines: Vaccines And Ballots Edition

At this point, just throw the whole country away!

Happening in the World: The Chinese state press reported that 350,000 Chinese citizens have already received an unapproved COVID-19 vaccine by state-owned Sinopharm subsidiary C.N.B.G. The inoculation of private citizens outside of clinical trials has been granted emergency approval by the government. Government officials, pharmaceutical executives, and front-line researchers make up the volunteers who received the two-stage vaccination (AP News).

Happening in the US: The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) announced Wednesday that it is considering changes in its debate structure after Tuesday’s chaotic performance by President Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The CPD stated that it will be adding new “tools to maintain order” in response to the disregard of debate rules by President Trump. It is unclear what new changes the CPD will establish before the next presidential debate on Oct. 15th in Miami, FL (NBC News).

Happening in NYC: The New York Board of Elections announced a misprint in ballot return envelopes, causing nearly 100,000 Brooklyn voters to receive envelopes with another voter’s personal information. The Board blamed the error on the third-party vendor Phoenix Graphics, the commercial printer designated to print and mail the ballots to voters in Brooklyn and Queens. The error raises questions about the security of mail-in voting for the fall election (CNN).
