Who doesn’t love finding a new favorite restaurant?

Happening in the World: In Mexico, four journalists and eight civilians were injured by police in a feminist protest against the country’s handling of their femicide crisis after the body of Bianca “Alexis” Lorenzana was found dismembered. The police opened fire as protestors approached the city hall building after spraying graffiti on the prosecutor’s building. Many human rights activists in Mexico have expressed contempt for the police department and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who they say isn’t taking the femicide issue seriously enough (The Guardian).

Happening in the US: The Supreme Court met to discuss a Republican attempt to end the Affordable Care Act. During their two hours of oral arguments, it was clear that the justices were not keen on killing the famous healthcare plan put in place during the Obama administration. The issue was largely around the individual mandate section of the law, that says  if Americans do not have health insurance they must pay at least $695 in additional taxes every year. However, when Trump signed his tax law in 2017, this tax penalty dropped to $0. From the logic of those who brought the issue to the Supreme Court, if the now non-functional individual mandate is struck down, then the entire law should be sacked as well (Vox).

Happening in New York City: Beginning this Friday, November 13, until Sunday, November 22, New York City will be celebrating Black Restaurant Week. This is the first year that the Houston originated event will be taking place in the Big Apple. Many of the restaurants participating will be offering special deals and meals during the week. Some of the many participating bakeries, cafes, restaurants include Black Nile Seafood & Soul Food in Crown Heights, The Bun Hut in the Lower East Side, Cafe Moca in Ridgewood, and Creme and Cocoa Creamery in Prospect Lefferts Gardens (Thrillist).
