Think about how it would feel to publish your first article on our website!
If a Daily Editor is like the sun, acting as the steady and reliable force in our lives, day in and day out, then a Staff Writer would be like a flower growing out of a rock: unexpectedly marvelous and a reminder that good things can flourish from weird places. We want your chaotic good energy in this realm.
Our staff writers spew nonsense and excellent pitches from their brains every Sunday night, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. From long-form features and breaking news to shitposts and event posts, Bwog staff writers truly do it all. Staff writers attend our weekly meetings on Sunday nights at 9:00 pm EST, pitch ideas at those meetings and write articles for our site, and participate in our community’s methods of communication: email and our slack server. Staff writers will have the opportunity to form friendships, become a better writer and journalist, and express yourself by writing whatever you want, so long as it is Columbia related and not an op-ed.
To become a staff writer for Bwog, all you have to do is apply with the application outlined below and submit it to editors@bwog.com by 11:59 pm EST on Friday, January 22, as a PDF titled “*First Name* App.” Your application can be as long or short as you want it to be and mostly serves as a way for our editors to get to know you and your interests so we can best help you in Bwog. If you’d like to apply to be both a Staff Writer and Daily Editor, feel free to submit a single application with the position you’d prefer clearly indicated.
We will be announcing our Spring 2021 Staff Writers at our meeting on Sunday, January 24 at 9:00 pm EST via Zoom. The Zoom link for this Sunday’s open meeting (January 17, the first open meeting of the semester) will be posted on this Facebook page so you can get a feel for Bwog’s vibes. Please email us at editors@bwog.com if you don’t have a Facebook account to access the link, and we can email it to you.
