Wednesday night, ResLife sent an email to residents of 616 W 116th St informing them that, starting Thursday, February 17, scaffolding will be put up. I wrote this in the last moments of the building’s scaffolding-less-ness.
you are erected
tall and metal and cold.
your builders
careen past my window —
they are not tall or metal or cold like you.
(they grin as they peer into my window;
you smile in bright fluorescents.)
the only solace
in having our light blocked out,
our view obstructed
is that maybe,
just maybe,
a piece of the facade
won’t crack off
and careen past my window.
