UK intelligence also alleged that Putin and his military have conflict, adding that they are running low on equipment and some soldiers have refused to complete orders. The US officials also note that the lack of communication between Putin and his advisers can be dangerous because it may affect peace talks. Happening in the US: President Biden is considering releasing one million oil barrels a day from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for 180 days to combat rising gas prices. Gas prices have been increasing partly due to the war in Ukraine, which Biden plans to note in his address about the release of the oil barrels. The move would add a large amount of oil to the global market. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve holds about 550 million barrels of oil. (NYT)
Happening in NYC: Mayor Eric Adams has been overseeing sweeps of homeless encampments across the city. One of the efforts Adams spoke about only resulted in five people out of 244 accepting alternative solutions, beds at a city shelter. Adams maintained that he was hopeful that the numbers would increase upon gaining trust among individuals experiencing homelessness. Adams has faced criticism from community advocates who say that these sweeps are damaging and may force individuals to other encampment sites. (Gothamist)
Happening in Our Community: Tonight at 6 pm, The Forum at Columbia is partnering with the Harlem Chamber Players to present “Women of the Movement.” The performance will act as a celebration of women composers and will include a moderated discussion at the end.
