Kicking off fall with some political upheaval!
Happening in the World: UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned just 45 days into her position. The resignation comes after severe backlash from her own party over her economic policies. She is expected to remain in the post for another week, at which point her successor will be elected and formally sworn in. Truss will become the shortest-serving PM in the history of the UK. (BBC)
Happening in the US: Judge David Carter of California ordered the release of four emails that implicate Donald Trump in a conspiracy to defraud the United States. Trump’s attorney John Eastman fought to keep these emails out of evidence, but Judge Carter ultimately ruled that they were of relevance to the ongoing investigation into the January 6 riots. Neither Trump nor the House Committee have commented. (USA Today)
Happening in NYC: Legislative aids of the New York City Council are pushing back against a plan to end hybrid work by the end of the month. The council has been criticized for the plan over a lack of accessibility and employee well-being. A petition with 200 signatures was sent to Speaker Adams on Wednesday calling to keep a hybrid work option. The legislative aids, who unionized last year, are preparing to negotiate their first contract. (The Gothamist)
