What even happened in Marvel’s Phase Four? Editors Note: Mentions of Violence
Happening in the world: A year after Russia began its full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with the BBC that “any territorial compromises would make [Ukraine] weaker as a state,” and “there’s no trust” to sustain any potential compromise between the two countries. He also addressed recent statements made by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, where Lukashenko declared that he is not only “ready to provide [territory] again” but also “ready to wage war alongside Russians.” Zelensky proclaimed it would be a “huge mistake,” adding that Ukraine would “fight and… survive” the attacks. Happening in the US: Marvel is kicking off Phase Five with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, to mixed reactions, with Variety describing it as “fun, as well as bedazzling, relentless and numbing, then fun again” but stating that, “if this is what phase 5 looks like, God save us from Phases 6,7 and 8.” Despite this, there does not seem to be a concern regarding the film’s success. Go figure. (Variety)
Happening in NYC: Meteorologists continue to study the record-high temperatures in the new york city area. James Tomasini, a meteorologist with The National Weather Service (NWS), said the temperatures are “above normal,” and fellow meteorologist John Homenuk declared this to be “the most boring winter in NYC history.” (Gothamist)
