Columbia Selects: MFA Readings at the KGB Bar
- November 1, 7 pm, KGB Bar (85 E 4 St)
- The Columbia Selects program of readings by School of the Arts MFA alumni continues this Wednesday at the Soviet-themed KGB bar. Featured alumni include the writers Ryan Lonergen ‘21, Ciera Robinson ‘22, and Daniel Kagan-Kans ‘19. For more info, email kgbcolumbia@gmail.com.
Carla Kuhn Speaker Series: “Radical”
- November 2, 6:30 pm, Katharina Otto-Bernstein Screening Room
- Christopher Zalla (MFA ‘04) and Ben Odell (MFA ‘04), the writer/director and producer, respectively, of the film Radical, will present a screening of their work and then lead a Q&A. Radical is about a frustrated teacher in a Mexican border town who tries new methods to unleash his students’ potential.
“Black Love Letters” Panel and Book Celebration
- November 2, 6:30 pm, Faculty House, third floor
- Black Love Letters is an anthology of letters and illustrations on the subject of Black love, edited by Natalie Johnson (Sociology MA ‘23) and Cole Brown. They and select contributors will be hosting a panel discussion and celebration of the book at Faculty House. Refreshments will be provided.
The Avant-Garde Does Not Surrender: Cinema of Želimir Žilnik
- November 4, all day, International Affairs Building: Marshall D. Shulman Seminar Room, 1219
- The East Central European Center and the Harriman Institute will present The Avant-Garde Does Not Surrender, a symposium dedicated to the works and practices of the renowned Yugoslav filmmaker Želimir Žilnik, who has made politically engaged cinema since the 1960s.
Lucia Cano and José Selgas Lecture
- October 30, 6:30 pm, Avery Hall: Wood Auditorium
- José Selgas and Lucia Cano, founders of the Madrid-based architecture firm, will deliver a lecture, followed by a response from GSAPP professors Laurie Hawkinson and Galia Salmonoff.
