I promise I am not a stalker.

Ever think those benches on 116th after the Claremont intersection were private and out of sight? Sorry but think again—they are, in fact, prime-time viewing for Barnard’s 616 residents. I don’t mean to hoard the wealth of the jewels of my people-watching, so here are some of the most… notable events that I have witnessed from my 616 window.

  1. Many, many making-out sessions. I know this seems like a private area where nobody can see you, but I promise it is in fact not.
  2. Every single phone call that happens at the ass crack of dawn. I think I probably know the security workers’ entire life stories at this point.
  3. At least three cars a day miserably fail to parallel park. Somehow people do not see the curb or the bags of trash in the street.
  4. A meet cute. Two people bumped into each other, and then chatted and exchanged numbers. Maybe I can get invited to their wedding.
  5. Runners loudly greet each other at 5:30 am on the Sunday of Halloweekend. I went to bed 2 hours ago. We are clearly living very different lives.
  6. A rat cult meeting. Something one can never unsee.
  7. An old lady picking up trash and taking care of the plants several mornings a week. #wholesome.
  8. A lot of smoking. All day. Everyday. Good for them, I suppose.
  9. A girl fighting with her boyfriend after he forgot her birthday. Yikes.
  10. Former President Beilock. Sometimes she needs a break from living in the middle of nowhere New Hampshire.

Wave next time you are outside 616 because odds are I will see it.
