Happening in the World: In Canada, a 19 year old student has been charged in the killings of a mother, her four children and another acquaintance who was living with the family. The youngest child that was killed was two months old. The family’s father was also injured and is currently in the hospital in serious, but stable condition. The student was living with the family at the time and he was arrested in the home without incident on Wednesday, March 6th. (BBC)
Happening in the US: On Thursday, March 7th, President Joe Biden gave a State of the Union address, where he talked about his campaign plans. President Biden discussed topics such as abortion access, immigration and foreign affairs. During the speech, there were multiple interruptions from Biden’s opposition including United States Representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene. Greene yelled “say her name,” regarding a Georgia nursing student, Laken Riley, who was murdered. There were other disruptors during Biden’s speech and they were removed from the chamber. (CBS)
Happening in NYC: On Friday, March 8th, there will be events to mark International Women’s Day. In Central Park, there will be an event titled, “Larger than Life: Women of Central Park” to celebrate the history of women in the development of Central Park. The tour is a mile long and offers tours on March 8th, March 10th and March 23rd. (TimeOut)
Happening in Our Community: On Friday March 8th, Columbia University will be hosting the online event, “The Impact of Dobbs on Emerging Reproductive Technologies.” The panelists are Sigal Klipstein MD, Judith Daar JD, and Kimberly Mutcherson JD. There are a variety of topics that will be discussed during the event such as the implications of the Dobb’s decision on testing embryos and the jurisprudence around reproductive decision-making. Registration is required and more information can be found on Columbia University Events.
