Happening in the World: In Australia, an aquarium is now home to a baby King Penguin that weighs almost 50 pounds. Pesto, a nine month old penguin, lives in Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium and he is one of the largest baby penguins that has ever lived in the aquarium. Pesto eats up to 30 fish every day and has garnered a lot of attention on social media for his waddle and massive amount of fluff. The aquarium employees, however, expect his weight to go down as Pesto gets older and loses the extra fluff. (CBS)
Happening in the US: A Secret Service agent in Vice President Kamala Harris’ security detail has been accused of groping a staff member in Wisconsin. The agent was allegedly intoxicated when the incident took place. The local Secret Service field office reported the assault and confiscated the agent’s gun and badge. The agent has been placed on administrative leave and there is a pending inquiry. (NBC)
Happening in NYC: Eric Adams, mayor of New York City, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. Adams is the first mayor in New York City history to be charged while in office. The charges against Adams have not yet been revealed, but more details are expected on Thursday. Eric Adams says he will “fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.” According to Adams’ aides, Eric Adams is cooperating with authorities and has denied any wrongdoings. (NYT, ABC7)
Happening in Our Community: On Thursday, September 26, Butler Library will host a new exhibition entitled, “Coney Island, Spectacular.” The exhibition will examine Coney Island’s role in artistic creativity and cultural labor. Additionally, the exhibition will show historical and contemporary perspectives on Coney Island. The exhibition will take place in Columbia University’s Rare Book & Manuscript Library and the event is open to students, alumni and faculty.
