Disappointed, honestly.

This is not the first time Bwog has discussed the newest addition to campus eats, the Fac Shack burrito. Unfortunately, our reviews of the burrito have not been entirely positive.

Before we get into the review, let me just say that I am a huge fan of Fac Shack during the day. I literally scrape the sides of the bowl every time because I devour the dishes with such fervor. Besides their delicious entrees, another plus to Fac Shack is the ease of which you can get a full lunch. All you have to do is wait in line (which usually moves pretty fast), scan your ID, and receive a bag with pretty much anything you could want in your meal. Fac Shack outfits you with not only a main course, but also a snack, a dessert, and a drink.

Now I will say that Fac Shack is a majestic sight at night. They have hung some string lights outside of the stand, which is a really nice touch. Look at the header of this article and see how warm and welcoming it is.

The burrito I sampled was the Chicken Mole Burrito. Honestly, I’m not sure if they have the same burrito every night they have late-night food (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday), but a lot of my critiques would apply to any type of burrito they might offer. Even though I am not the biggest fan of Mole sauce, I will refrain from critiquing that specifically because it is more of a personal preference.

My first criticism is the fact that the burrito was horizontal. Upon reading this article on Bwog, I was hoping that Eli’s experience was a fluke, and that my burrito would have all of the ingredients blended together nicely, like at my home base Chipotle back in Wisconsin (note that I am referring to the Wisconsin Chipotle as the good example because Chipotle at 110 literally gives me horizontal burritos all the time), but alas, I was not so lucky. What I mean by horizontal is that all of the ingredients were in a line, rather than being rolled together. In the image below, you can see how far we had to eat into the burrito to discover any chicken.

Jess finally making it out of the rice layer.

This combined with the fact that I don’t really like Mole made the burrito a pretty unpleasant meal for me. I feel like I have to throw in some good things about it now because I don’t want to come off as overly critical of my favorite dining hall. I think the rice was cooked pretty well. I think the burrito was pretty sizeable. I liked how easy it was to get the burrito. I really liked the rest of what they gave me in that iconic brown paper bag. They included an apple, a water cup, and Grandma’s Cookies, as per usual, but they also gave me chips and salsa, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

The add-ons.

In the end, I did leave a little disappointed. My expectations may have been too high. After eating their stellar lunches multiple days a week, I expected an excellent burrito. To be honest, I probably would have liked it if I liked Mole sauce, but again, I don’t want to base a general critique on my personal preference. The horizontalness though is definitely a problem. Fac Shack, if you’re reading this, all you have to do is roll the burrito in the other direction. Please.
