Happening in the World: Ethiopia’s 27-year-old Yomif Kejelcha broke the men’s half marathon world record. At the Medio Maraton de Valencia in Spain, he finished the half marathon in 57 minutes and 30 seconds to shave one second off the previous record that was set by Kenya’s Jacop Kiplimo in 2021. Happening in the US: North Carolina’s next attorney general will be one of two outgoing members of Congress who have represented the Charlotte area on Capitol Hill and previously at the state legislature: Democratic U.S. Rep. Jeff Jackson and Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Bishop. The winner succeeds two-term Attorney General Josh Stein. Democrats have dominated the position since 1896. The two candidates are on track to spend at least $31 million combined on advertising during the general election campaign. (AP)

Happening in NYC: Today, the NYC subway system celebrates its 120th birthday. Since October 27, 1904, the subway system has evolved significantly throughout the decades. To celebrate the anniversary, the New York Transit Museum opened “The Subway Is…,” a new exhibit on the history of the system—an exhibit that wants individuals to relate the subway and its role in their lives to the end of the sentence.
