The Business of Broadway: A Conversation with Tony Winner Ken Davenport

  • The Columbia Business School Executives in Residence Program and The Hub present a conversation with Tony Award-winning producer Ken Davenport. Davenport’s Broadway and off-Broadway productions have been extremely successful, and in this talk he will discuss the economic side of Broadway.

200 Years of Italian Opera in the United States: 1825–2025

  • Tuesday, February 11, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Italian Academy
  • To mark the 200th anniversary of Italian opera in the United States, enjoy this event hosted by Columbia’s Italian Academy. At the event, presenters will announce a new international initiative before a concert of works by Paganini, Rossini, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

An Ode to Zora: Dust Tracks On a Road (Book Chat)

  • Tuesday, February 11, 6 to 8:30 pm, Milstein Center 225, Barnard
  • This is the first of three events that activate the Black, Brilliant, and Free installation in honor of Zora Neale Hurston (BC 1928). This event is a book chat about Hurston’s memoir, Dust Tracks On a Road, and the general “theme of finding freedom through autoethnography.” Copies of the book are available as are PDFs.

Live Music at Teachers College – Claremont Strings (Duet) 

  • Wednesday, February 12, 4 to 5:30 pm, Everett Cafe, Teachers College
  • This event is part of Teachers College’s Everett Cafe Music Program. Enjoy a coffee or lunch while listening to beautiful music! This edition will feature a duet from the Claremont Strings Ensemble, playing music for classical strings.

From the Gabrielis to Zosha di Castri

  • Thursday, February 13, 7 pm, Teatro, Italian Academy
  • Magdalena Baczewska is a multitalented musician and educator who is a Senior Lecturer in Music and the director of the Music Performance Program at Columbia. This week, she comes to the Italian Academy to present harpsichord and piano works across time, from Domenico Scarlatti to the Gabrielis. 

The Library is Open 16 – Material Acts

  • Friday, February 16, 1 pm, Avery Library
  • Join Columbia’s GSAPP and Avery Library for their lunchtime series, the Library is Open, featuring recently published authors to discuss their work and ideas. This event features Kate Yeh Chiu and Jia Yi Gu, curators and editors of Material Acts: Experimentation in Architecture and Design, both a publication and a Los Angeles exhibition. Both follow the same five material acts: animating, disassembling, feeding, re-fusing, and stitching.
