Happening in the World: Allies of Ukraine across Europe have gathered in Paris to discuss their next steps in supporting the nation’s hand in its push for a ceasefire with Russia. Hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, the nearly 30 representatives from the allied nations are also said to be considering proposals to deploy European troops in tandem with any peace agreement. This follows Macron’s announcement that France will be delivering a defense aid package to Ukraine worth roughly two billion euros. (AP)
Happening in the US: On Tuesday, a Turkish doctoral student studying at Tufts University, Rumeya Ozturk, was taken into custody by plainclothes US immigration officers while walking to an Iftar meal to celebrate Ramadan. Ozturk, who had participated in pro-Palestinian protests as a legal US resident, was arrested following the White House’s crackdown on what it classifies as antisemitism on American college campuses. In a statement released by Tufts University, it was stated that Ozturk’s student visa has been revoked. She is presently being held in a detention facility in Louisiana. (BBC)
Happening in NYC: On Friday, Manhattan’s Torch & Crown Brewing Company is introducing its brand-new membership program: get the company’s logo permanently tattooed on your body in exchange for a year of free beer. In order to boost participation, the brewing company will be offering free tattoos at their SoHo location for their event entitled “BatFlip Day.” The 15 slots available for the membership program tattoo filled up quickly, with everyone who receives the special tattoo set to receive two cases of beer and up to two standard draft pours per visit. Happening in our Community: Today from 12:00-1:00 pm, Alice! Health Promotion is offering a free virtual Well-being Workshop. The event is open to all Columbia University students, and will emphasize the importance of stress management, sleep, and good nutrition. Participants will learn about the importance of these things, as well as how to access campus resources that can provide support. Registration is required, and can be found here.
