A new ice cream parlor just opened beside Upside Pizza.

Softside is the newest addition to the food scene in Morningside Heights. It’s a little place tucked away behind Upside Pizza, on 112th street and Broadway.

Softside is fabulous news for anyone who spends time around Columbia. The ice cream is light, sweet, and soft. You can get a cup or cone of vanilla/chocolate swirl or strawberry/pistachio swirl. Both options are good, but the latter is just incredible.

You can also choose from an assortment of toppings: fruit, brownie bites, rainbow sprinkles, chocolate pieces, and more. The vanilla cookie bites are phenomenal – so buttery. I’d also recommend the strawberries. You also have the option of adding drizzles. They offer milkshakes and sundaes as well, which, though I haven’t tried, I can safely assume are delicious.

It’s meant to be an eat-and-walk situation; there’s nowhere to sit down, and they don’t offer to go containers. But this adds to its simple charm. Anyway, who’s going to complain? Columbia is in desperate need of some decent eateries. And Softside arrived just in time for summer.
