don't stop believing in America

never stop believing in America

As you can tell by today’s Bwog posts, Election Day had us reeling. As we come to terms with our nation’s future, it’s important to open yourself up to the support of your friends and family, and to have faith in our country’s democracy. In this week’s edition of field notes, we’ve captured some activities people were up to in an otherwise pleasant Election Day long weekend.

Rock bottom:

  • Went to Times Square in the early a.m. hours of election night – surprised by how silent it was
  • Mom called at 2am on election night; we ranted about the electoral college for 30 minutes
  • Passive-aggressively asked a friend’s tinder date to get out of her room because she said he was making her feel uncomfortable
  • Remembered over a day into staying with a friend whose apartment had two cats that I’m a little bit allergic to cats, and that this was a problem
  • Went to an art gallery with some friends who spent the whole time rating photographs as either cursed or non-cursed
  • Boarded a cross-country flight on election day aiming to avoid trauma; turned out that the plane had free WiFi and I didn’t get to finish my Intro Human Rights readings
  • Tried to push past a tourist like a true New Yorker but tripped on a sandbag instead
  • Explained the dangers of viagra to my brother with the help of my mom and grandma

But wait – there’s hope!

  • Helped legalize marijuana in the State of California
  • Performed (with the Band) CeeLo Green’s “F— You” in front of Trump’s victory party
  • Went hiking with brother and two 22 year old college boys; they picked up trash as we hiked; heartening
  • Went to Van Cortlandt Park – and witnessed true northeastern autumn foliage – for the first time
  • Rode a hippogriff
  • Bartender looked at my fake id this weekend and said, “Oooooh, pretty!”
  • Taught a family friend how Tinder matching works
  • Went to my first Columbia football game… at Harvard
