Happening in the world: Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will be the first member of Trump’s cabinet to represent the administration abroad as he travels to Asia this week. He will travel to South Korea and China, both countries being places where security concerns are increasing. Later this month, he is also expected to travel to Europe for further security meetings, where he is widely seen as the “canary in a coal mine” of the Trump administration. (WSJ)

The 86th St. station on the Lexington Avenue line, not as crowded as before

Happening in NYC: The Second Avenue subway has relieved crowding on the Lexington Avenue subway a bit as the number passengers on the Lexington line has decreased since the Second Ave. line has opened on January 1st. Its number of daily passengers has grown from around 83,000 on the first day to around 150,000, which is short of the initially predicted 200,000 passengers/day but still a promising number. (NYT)
