Today’s next Senior Wisdom is from Maddie Stearn, who transferred into Barnard and into our hearts. This one is short and sweet.
Name, School, Major, Hometown: Maddie Stearn; Barnard College; East Asian Studies; Vienna, Virginia
Claim to fame: Bwog’s former Managing Editor
Where are you going? Back to Virginia to sleep on my parents’ couch. My dog is a jerk and won’t give up my bed.
What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of 2021?
1) Keep your senior wisdom short.
2) Paste in plain text.
3) Transferring schools is hard and feels like a huge deal, but it will probably be worth it in the end.
“Back in my day…” I don’t know, I didn’t go here. I’ve heard Bacchanal was good?
Justify your existence in 30 words or fewer: I didn’t join Spec.
What was your favorite class at Columbia? Gender and Power in China with Dorothy Ko
Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese? An article called, “True Love is a Giant Wheel of Cheese” once popped up as my suggested reading on Facebook. Their algorithm is clearly working.
I was also Bwog’s Managing Editor at the time, so this probably had something to do with my search history. Occupational hazard.
One thing to do before graduating: Go to one of the events that your professors recommend. You’ll probably feel accomplished for having left your room.
Any regrets? Halloween of 2014, but that’s neither here nor there.

@Joe Milholland Maddie! You were an amazing managing editor to work under! You’re a really great friend to have, and I really appreciate the intelligence and coolness you brought to Bwog.
