Wake me up when this mid-September heatwave ends. But first: Bwoglines!
Happening in the world: Australia just let the cat out of the bag… the “cat” being Australian intelligence found China responsible for a cyber attack in which the the Australian parliament was hacked. China– Australia’s largest trading partner– allegedly took this course of action in order to protect itself in their trade relations (CNBC).
Happening in the US: In light of the recent diagnoses of illness as a result of flavored e-cigarettes, politicians across the country have rushed to take action. Yesterday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced “an emergency executive action to ban the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes in the state, amid a surge of vaping-related illnesses and deaths across the country.” This executive order would make New York the second state (behind Michigan) to ban these products (CNBC).
Happening in NYC: Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Ric Ocasek, lead singer of the rock band “The Cars,” died yesterday in New York at age 75. Hits from the iconic band included “Good Times Roll” and “Just What I Needed.” After the band broke up in the 1980s, Ocasek went on to have a career in music production (NBC4).
Happening on campus: There’ll be a panel about Wikipedia (followed by an edit-a-thon) taking place in Butler Library from 2pm to 6pm. Snacks will be served, just make a Wikipedia account beforehand if you can!
