Happening in the World:  The President of Chile, Sebastian Pinera, announced that Chile will no longer be hosting either of the major international summits planned for this year because of deadly protests in Santiago. The protests, sparked by a now revoked increase in subway ticket prices, demonstrate the “anger among ordinary Chileans, who feel they have been excluded from the nation’s economic rise.”At the moment, it is unclear where the summits, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25), will be held. (CNN) 

Happening in the US:  President Trump tweeted a photoshopped image, watermarked from the conservative news site The Daily Wire, that pictured him placing a medal around the neck of the dog injured in the death of an Islamic State leader. The actual image is from 2017 when Trump awarded a Medal of Honor to James C. McCloughan, “a retired Army medic who is credited with saving the lives of 10 men during the war in Vietnam” (NYT) 

Happening in New York: Celebrate Halloween with New York City’s 46th Annual Village Halloween parade. This year’s theme is “Wild Things!” You can be in the parade or just watch, but you have to dress up! The procession goes up Sixth Ave from Spring Street to 16th Street. The procession lines up at Sixth Avenue and Canal Street and rolls out from 6:30 pm–8:30 pm; the festivities go until around 11:00 pm (Time Out NY).

Happening on Campus: Winter is coming to Ferris! To quote the informational poster, “Game of Thrones may be over but our obsession is strong!” So head over tonight from 5-8 before your spooktacular Halloween adventure (Columbia Dining). 

Halloween History:  The holiday originated from the Celtic festival of Samhain “when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts” (History)!
