Happening in the World: As Hurricane Delta struck the Yucatan Peninsula, a man named Ricardo Pimentel made his home a safe haven for animals in danger. He opened an animal shelter in 2011, and since then has dedicated himself to rescuing animals. When this hurricane hit, he brought in sheep, cats, chicks, bunnies, but namely dogs–300 of them. He posted about what he was doing on social media and raised thousands of dollars to buy food for the animals (ABC News).

Happening in the US: On Thursday, President Trump and former Vice President Biden held independent Town Hall meetings to talk about contested issues. These town halls took place after the formal debates were canceled. During Trump’s town hall, he dodged a question about whether or not he took a COVID-19 test on the day of the last debate by answering, “Possibly I did. Possibly I didn’t.” Biden’s town hall, on the other hand, was described as having the “[feeling] of an evening lecture hall on a college campus. Biden also stated that he does not think that the Senate should vote on the confirmation hearing because we are currently in the midst of an election (USA Today).

Happening in NYC: It was recently announced that two of the puppets used in the making of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) will be auctioned off beginning on November 13th, 2020 in Staten Island. The collector, Peter Lutrario, is expected to make between $150,000 and $200,000 for the 11-inch Santa puppet and the 6-inch Rudolph puppet. They are being sold as a pair (CBS New York).

Happening in the Community: The Columbia University Red Cross Club is hosting a blood drive on campus on Tuesday, October 20th from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. It will be hosted in the Faculty House. Appointments are required, so check out their social media pages to learn more.
