Another Adams administration official resigns unsurprisingly.
Happening in the World: Two American and British climbers were rescued from a Himalayan mountain after three nights of being stranded at 20,000 feet. The climbers were rescued on Sunday after an earlier attempt had failed and they had used a pager to alert that they were stranded on the Chaukhamba III mountain in Uttarakhand. Their luggage, including food and equipment, had fallen into the ravine. The Indian Mountaineering Federation had contacted a French team already on the mountain and was able to reach them on Saturday evening. (NY Times)
Happening in the US: After her divorce from Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates came into her own with billions of dollars and began to donate large amounts to pro-choice organizations. Prior, French Gates has mostly chosen to make nonpartisan donations and would choose not to disclose her voting choices. Now, after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, French Gates has been spurred to act on the issue of abortion. (NY Times)
Happening in NYC: Phil Banks, NYC deputy mayor for public safety and close advisor to Mayor Eric Adams, resigns amid waves of Adams officials’ departures. Banks is the seventh senior Adams Administration official to resign in the last few weeks, and Adams said on NY1, “I wish my good friend well.” (The Gothamist)
