Nadal will forever be my tennis crush. Editor’s Warning: Mentions of child endangerment and drug use.

Happening in the World: Tennis icon Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from professional tennis this past Thursday. At age 38, Nadal is retiring with 22 Grand Slam titles. His last tournament will be the Davis Cup, happening next month. Nadal’s retirement comes at a time when several injuries, among other factors, prevent him from being a frequent competitor at large tournaments (his past tournament being the Summer Olympics, in which he lost to Djokovic. Still, he ended up reaching the quarterfinals of men’s doubles). (NPR)

Happening in the US: In an attempt to appeal to swing voters, Vice President Harris has promised to appoint a Republican to her cabinet if elected. When she was campaigning in Arizona, she also proposed the creation of a bipartisan council of advisers on policy. So far, more than 100 former GOP officials have endorsed Harris, and her recent proposal appears to be an attempt to appeal further to disillusioned conservative voters. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: A man from Long Island was recently charged with possessing a quantity of drugs estimated to be able to kill three and a half million people (15 pounds of fentanyl, 18 pounds of cocaine, and half a pound of xylazine). Remon Gibson appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to nine charges of drug trafficking, drug possession, and child endangerment. In a search of his home about a month earlier, law enforcement officers also discovered $80,000 in cash and drug production equipment. (Gothamist)
