Happening in NYC: Mayor Eric Adams is asking voters to grant him sweeping new authority over trash this November, which includes street vendors. The proposal would codify the sanitation department’s authority to clean areas that currently fall out of their jurisdiction like city highways and neglected medians. The department will also be able to enforce street vending rules. The text reads, “Voting ’Yes’ will expand and clarify the Department of Sanitation’s power to clean streets and other City property and require disposal of waste in containers. Voting ‘No’ leaves law unchanged.” (The Gothamist)
