  • Columbia alum Betty Cremmins will give insight from her 20 years of experience on how we can utilize the power of climate data to drive innovation toward global climate resilience and action. More information. 

WILD LIFE Movie Screening

  • Tuesday October 22, 6 to 8:30 pm.
  • In person at The Forum. Registration required.
  • Films at The Forum will present WILD LIFE, where you can follow conservationist Kris Tompkins through her life of protecting landscapes and falling in love with an outdoorsman and entrepreneur of Patagonia and The North Face. The National Geographic Documentary Film chronicles their journey to effect the largest private land donation in history. The screening will follow with a discussion featuring Oscar-winning filmmaker Chai Vasarhelyi. More information. 

Children of a Modest Star 

  • Wednesday October 23, 12:15 to 2 pm.
  • In person in Room 1392 of the International Affairs Building. Registration required.
  • In this talk, a new framework will be provided to understand our planetary condition. Speakers will challenge dominant ways of thinking about humanity’s relationship to the planet, and the political forms governing it. More information. 

Science and Society Open House

  • Wednesday October 23, 3 to 5 pm
  • In person in 513 Fayerweather Hall. No registration required. 
  • Pop in to learn more about the new Science and Society minor and to mingle with other students and faculty over snacks. Topics covered by this department include AI, nuclear power, bioethics, surveillance, and “what it means to be human?” More information. 

Undergraduate Research Symposium

  • Thursday October 24, 10:30 am to 12 pm.
  • In person at Lerner Hall’s Roone Arledge Auditorium. No registration required. 
  • Undergraduates from all divisions will share the research they have worked on this summer. Attendees will also be able to vote on the best poster, and learn more about undergraduate research opportunities. More information

Plasma Physics Colloquium with The Honorable Jeffrey S. Merrifield

  • Friday October 25, 3 to 4 pm.
  • In-person in 214 Mudd Hall. No registration required.
  • Appointed by Presidents Bill Clinton and G.W. Bush as a Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, The Honorable Jeffrey S. Merrifield will discuss fusion technologies and the ongoing domestic and international regulatory approach to them. More information
