Take a break from midterms and make an unnecessary Target run (you deserve it)!

In my last article, I claimed that a Target would be opening next door to the new Trader Joe’s in Harlem, and I’m happy to report that it’s here!

This past weekend, I found myself on 125th and in desperate need of groceries, so I decided to stop by Trader Joe’s to fill my dorm fridge, which has been begging me to eat something besides Ferris for weeks. As I was walking down the street, I noticed a suspicious amount of Target shopping bags, and, much to my surprise, this alleged Target was up and running.

Conveniently located just up the escalator from Trader Joe’s, this Target exceeded all of my (albeit very low) expectations. I didn’t need anything—but then again, when does anyone ever need anything from Target? First of all, it’s huge. Like, reminded-me-of-my-hometown-mall-Target huge. Okay, maybe not that big, but relative to every other New York City Target I’ve been in, I was impressed.

The store was fully stocked, and I couldn’t help but wish it had been open a month ago when I was frantically searching for a rug to make my room look less empty. Maybe it’s just because it wasn’t ransacked by every college student during move-in, but nonetheless, I was shocked by how much they had. If I had a long list, I’m confident everything would have been checked off—except maybe a last-minute Halloween accessory, as the fall section was almost completely bare, aside from a few ridiculous kids’ costumes.

But do not fear, the infamous Christmas section was thriving (candles included), and I got my first taste of the peppermint and gingerbread heaven that is steadily approaching. Although I said I didn’t need anything (I really, really didn’t), I still walked out with a few essentials and some very premature holiday decor. Despite my evident lack of willpower, I did manage to stay within an acceptable budget, so I’ll consider that a win.

My new Christmas mug and I are thrilled about this Trader Joe’s/Target combo, and I’m sure I will be frequenting it much more than its 99th and 96th counterparts.
