CONFIDENTIAL: Enclosed is THE super secret guide to secretly becoming a Liz’s secret insider.
Liz’s Place, the singular coffee shop on Barnard’s campus, might serve the most reliable creek water one will ever find. In fact, upon first taste, one might even wonder if it actually is creek water (it’s that good!). And still, students flock to Liz’s at the prime time of 9:30 am, waiting in the wrapped-around line to swipe for their creek waters, personalized with a dollop of caramel or vanilla. But do all students rely on these creek waters to keep them afloat, or perhaps, is there a secret menu brewing behind the counter…? Only the caffeine dependent know.
Here’s your guide to ordering as a Liz’s insider:
- The Bottomless Latte
This mix of flavors is an exciting concoction served with a dark roast base. (A base almost as dark as Barnard’s debt.) With a splash of maple syrup (representing Altschul Hall), a dash of cinnamon (almost as spicy as Barnard’s tuition), and topped off with oat milk (to honor the grand opening of the Lefrak center), this latte comes to a total of 252 million dollars. #Worth it? (Barnard, let us know.)
- Go Time, Grind Time Espresso
With the intense grind that Barnard students endure, it is crucial for them to have easy access to a straight hit to their bloodstream. With a layer of chocolate shavings comes Liz’s attempt to make the college life a bit more sweet and maybe even convince students that they “like this little life,” but some might need something a little more strong…
- (Finals) Red Eye
Delusional? In desperate need of help? Hearing rumors that there’s a drink that will power you through finals week, but no one will tell you where to find it when you ask them to “show it to me please Rachel”? Head over to Liz’s. The insiders have yet to understand what secret ingredients are in this concoction, but it is known to keep you wired. (Editor’s note: I didn’t sleep for four days after this drink. Passed my calc final.)
- Housing Lottery Latte
A bittersweet treat made with lavender syrup (to calm your nerves), espresso (to sharpen your senses), and a hint of sea salt (to remind you of that Plimpton single you didn’t get). Stir while muttering, “Maybe next year.” You’ll likely end up in the basement of 620.
- Breve, Beautiful, Barnard
It wouldn’t be a secret menu without a little bit of alliteration. Just like Barnard, this breve packs a bold, rich punch with its combination of espresso and half and half. Accompany it with a Liz’s muffin and get the full Barnard experience (the muffin is falling apart in your hands and you’re washing it down with way too much caffeine). And don’t ask the barista the last time they checked the date on the half and half.
Email tips@bwog.com and let us know your experience if you order off of the secret menu. If the barista says they’ve never heard of your drink, don’t worry—they have to say that. They’ll know, on the DL. Just give ‘em a wink.
